Image: On January 26th, we said goodbye to a legend. A dedicated educator and mentor to thousands, Dr. Gilles Allard will be remembered for his expertise, wisdom, generosity, and, undeniably, his humor. He was, and will always be, a most beloved professor of the UGA Department of Geology. It’s been an honor, Gilles. Thank you. Dr. Gilles Allard December 12, 1927- January 26, 2025 During a 50+ year career as a Professor and Explorationist, Gilles produced an unparalleled body of work on ore deposits and plate tectonics and a generation of students who are now leaders in the mineral exploration world. Gilles worked on all 7 continents and was tireless in his desire to better understand and learn how best to find the mineral resources upon which society depends. Over his long career, he was awarded the Duncan Derry medal of the GAC, the A.O. Dufresne award of the CIM, the Grande Prix de Merite award of the AGGQ, and the Jean Descarreaux award of the AEMQ.
