Resource & Energy Storage

Resource & Energy Storage

Please join us for the Inaugural Georgia First Summit hosted by the University of Georgia. The workshop will be held on the UGA campus on January 9-10th, 2025.

SUMMIT organizers

Adam Milewski, Professor & Department Head; Director, Georgia First Initiative, University of Georgia
Charlotte Garing, Assistant Professor, University of Georgia
Richard Esposito, R&D Manager Program Manager - CCS, Southern Company
Ben Wernette, Principal Scientist & Strategic Partnerships Lead, Southern States Energy Board
Kyle Tschepikow, Executive Director of Business Engagement & Innovation, University of Georgia

This event will bring together leaders from industry, academia, and government to explore the vital role of carbon capture in addressing climate change and advancing sustainable energy solutions.

The summit will feature a series of talks, panel discussions, and networking opportunities with some of the leading experts in the field. It’s an opportunity to engage in conversations about the latest innovations, best practices, and the policy landscape surrounding CCS technologies. We believe that the exchange of ideas at this summit will help build stronger collaborations across sectors.

The summit will also play a key role in helping establish the Southeast—and Georgia in particular—as a national model for carbon capture and storage. As a state with a unique combination of industrial strength and a growing commitment to sustainability, Georgia is poised to be a leader in this area and is one of the reasons for establishing the Georgia First Program within our department and the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at UGA.  Georgia First is the Georgia Resources Innovation and Sustainability Ecosystem with a focus on key areas like critical minerals, energy generation, environmental stewardship, geohealth, and resource and energy storage. We accomplish this by developing our students, enhancing innovative research, creating collaborative industry partnerships, and building connections with State entities, all with a focus on inclusive excellence.
