He was the Director of the Mineralogy, Petrology and Pegmatology (MP2) Research Group in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of New Orleans (https://www.uno.edu), New Orleans LA, USA where he taught mineralogy and petrology for 42 years. He is a full member of the Graduate Faculty and has supervised or served on the committees of 62 graduate students. He was also an Adjunct Professor at The University of Michigan (https://lsa.umich.edu/earth/camp-davis.html) where he taught introductory field geology classes for 38 summers. The University of New Orleans awarded him the honorary title of University Research Professor in 2000. He recently retired from teaching and was awarded Professor Emeritus status.
