Student Spotlight: Morrison Nolan

Hell Creek Montana

Over the summer, geology undergrad Morrison Nolan traveled to the University of Washington to take part in Biology 4750: Paleo Field Methods. Nolan was one of eleven undergrads with a few other graduate students taking the course. Most of the field work took place in Hell Creek, Montana which is a world famous hub for Cretaceous and Paleocene fossils. After a one-week introduction, Nolan spent the next three weeks living in a tent on the scenic reservoir taking detailed site notes, cataloging fossils, and recording GPS coordinates. Many fish, therapods, reptiles and a rare triceratops vertebrae were found during his excavation. Overall, Morrison Nolan said he “was thankful to Dr. Sally Walker for telling him about the course and for the experience out West.”
