Jennifer Baar, CPG, is an Economic Geologist with Hecla Mining Company's Corporate Technical Services team, where she coordinates cross-functional technical programs and serves as a Corporate Production Geology subject matter expert across multiple operating mines. A UGA geology alumna (BSc, 2005) and Washington State University graduate (MSc, 2010), Jennifer has spent nearly two decades working across more than ten mine sites with major and mid-tier mining companies including Barrick and Rio Tinto — spanning gold, lithium, polymetallic copper, and polymetallic silver operations in both open pit and underground environments. Her work ranges from mine technology evaluation to cross-disciplinary program development. She specializes in connecting geology with the various technical and operational teams from both the mine and process facilities. Beyond her technical work, Jennifer is deeply committed to service and to developing the next generation of geology and mining professionals. She is an active member of SME who has contributed to the organization at multiple levels — from presenting and moderating sessions to serving as Geoscience Program Area Manager for MINEXCHANGE — and currently serves on the Executive Committee for the Mining and Exploration Division. She serves as Secretary on the UGA Geology Alumni Advisory Board, is a member of Hecla's Women's Advisory Committee, and serves as Idaho Secretary for Women in Mining. Jennifer mentors geology students and early-career professionals across the industry, and remains passionate about elevating the role of geologists in mining leadership. Jennifer lives in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho with her husband, son, and a menagerie of pets, enjoying the Pacific Northwest lifestyle that a career in mining has made possible.
