Friday, October 4 2024, 3 - 4:15pm Geology Colloquium - GG Building 200A or via Zoom Colloquium Speaker: Dr. Ben Wernett Title: The Fundamentals of Carbon Storage Hosted by: Adam Milewski Min Bio: Ben Wernette, PhD is a Principal Scientist and Strategic Partnerships Lead at the Southern States Energy Board (SSEB), where he oversees carbon management projects across the southeastern U.S. With extensive expertise in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), Ben has led technical teams in securing over $150 million in federal funding for cutting-edge carbon management initiatives, including the Longleaf CCS Hub and the Southeast Direct Air Capture Hub. He holds a BS in Geology from Auburn University, an MSc in Geology from Indiana University, and a PhD in Geoscience from Duke University. Ben has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and focuses on bridging theory and application to drive impactful climate solutions through collaboration with industry, regulators, and community-based organizations.
