Congratulations to Dr. Milewski, Geology Professor and Department Head, for his selection as a GSA Society Fellow.

Society Fellowship is an honor bestowed on the best of our profession by election at the spring GSA Council meeting. GSA members are nominated by other GSA members in recognition of a sustained record of distinguished contributions to the geosciences and the Geological Society of America through such avenues as publications, applied research, teaching, administration of geological programs, contributing to the public awareness of geology, leadership of professional organizations, and taking on editorial, bibliographic, and library responsibilities.

A note from Dr. Milewski

I am deeply honored and humbled to share that I have been elected to the Geological Society of America Fellowship.

This recognition is especially meaningful because GSA has been part of my professional journey from the very beginning. My first conference presentation was at the 2003 GSA Annual Meeting in Seattle, where I presented work on developing a web-based GIS database for the Tethys Ocean. I remember that experience vividly. I was extremely nervous yet excited, and I felt the feeling of stepping into a much larger geoscience community for the first time.

Since then, GSA has remained a place of learning, connection, mentorship, and scientific exchange. To now be recognized as a GSA Fellow is both humbling and deeply meaningful.

I am grateful to the mentors, colleagues, students, collaborators, and communities who have shaped my path and made this work possible. Geology, to me, has always been rooted in curiosity and service: understanding Earth’s history, processes, resources, hazards, landscapes, and water systems in ways that support better science, better decisions, and stronger communities.

Thank you to the Geological Society of America for this honor, and congratulations to the other newly elected Fellows. I look forward to continuing to engage with the GSA community and supporting the next generation of geoscientists.
